MDM trade plate driver makes a delivery to Swanage and brings back a gift.
We were delighted this week when a trade plate driver brought us back a fridge magnet, after delivering a vehicle to the seaside town of Swanage. So, we popped it on the refrigerator at the MDM Vehicle Deliveries headquarters.
Swanage, located at the eastern end of the Jurassic coast is famous for its sandy beaches, ice cream and Punch and Judy.
It was originally a small port and fishing village. In Victorian times the town thrived mainly down to a local Swanage resident named John Mowlem and later his nephew George Burt who ran the Mowlem construction company. Both John and Burt aided in the development of the town and its infrastructure. The Mowlem building is now home to the cinema, bars and restaurants.
The railway was constructed in 1880 which opened access to Swanage to and from London, allowing the wealthy to visit until 1972 when the area suffered a recession, so British rail closed the station down as part of wider cutbacks.
Luckily, buses are still running so our driver was able to catch the Purbeck Breezer 40 to Poole so he could collect his next vehicle.
Fun Fact for the family.
Each year Swanage hosts a huge carnival week in the summer with lots of fun for kids and adults alike, this years’ theme is Jurassic rocks.
